Surface Discharge Unit

One of the main problems associated with conventional tank discharge systems is that the screened outlet is situated at the base of the tank usually well out of both sight and reach of the operator.

Over the last six years Kingfisher have been developing a Surface Discharge Unit (SDU) for use in all types of tank systems. The need for such a device is most accutely felt in the juvenile, nursery or pre-ongrowing stages when food wastages and mortalities can be a major problem.

By positioning the discharge screen at the surface of the tank, whilst still collecting all waste products, mortalities etc. at the bottom, the operator is able to monitor activities very carefully indeed. Mortalities can be recorded accurately and promptly, waste food leaving the tank can be observed almost immediatly and steps taken to adjust feed rates. Screens can easily and safely be exchanged for different sizes. And all of these actions can be performed without disturbing or stressing the stock.

The advantages of the SDU over traditional bottom discharge screens can be sumarised as follows:

• Mortality collection simplified

• Food wastage can be monitored and reduced

• Screens can be changed whilst the tank is stocked

• Tank flushing reduced or eliminated

• Underground pipework requirements reduced or eliminated

• Main discharge channels may be reduced in depth
